Outreach officers: do you have an outreach event or program you need help funding? Apply for Outreach Matching Funds, available now! Fill out an application, and attach a list of expenses, and TESC may match up to 50% of your expenses. The turnaround time is pretty quick, but try to apply at least two weeks before your event.
The matching funds application is available to the right, under “Important Documents.” Also, see the “How TESC can help you with your outreach” document for information on more resources TESC offers for your outreach efforts. If you have any questions, email Maria or Justin.

At last Wednesday's GBM (week 3), a student from USD explained how she grew up needing weekly blood transfusions to combat her condition, and how important blood donors are to people like her everywhere. Anyway, the TESC blood drive is November 4th and 5th. On the 4th, the Bloodmobile will be in Town Square (in front of the Triton statue, near the Student Services Center), and on the 5th, it will be on Library Walk. Stop by anytime from 10:00am – 3:30pm either day, or make an appointment online here.
We also mentioned at the GBM that there would be an inter-org competition for DECaF points to see which org could turn out the most donors. We now have more details on the exact number of points TESC is offering. The org that brings out the most donors will earn 30 DECaF points; the second most, 20 points; and the third most, 10 points. If you are an outreach officer (or any kind of officer) in a student org, please be sure to let your orgs know about this!
If you are interested in helping us by volunteering for the event, we are looking for people to table in front of the
Bloodmobile. The usual 1 DECaF point per person per hour applies, for the below timeslots:
November 5: 3pm - 4pm.

SPAWAR (or more specifically, K-12 Education Outreach @ SPAWAR) is looking to hire a Student Intern. It would be 10-15 hours a week, and they are looking for this person to begin as soon as possible (the hiring process generally takes about 2 weeks) and it would last until December 9th. The position pays $16.48 an hour.
SPAWAR is looking for someone with an engineering/science background that enjoys working with children. The job is a lot of fun but there is a lot of work involved. The interested individual will need to be able to do science demonstrations at events and they would like someone that is familiar with the UCSD campus and might also be involved in campus activities/clubs.
If you are interested, please forward your resume to Ashley Nekoui (ashl...@navy.mil ) and include your availability.
There is a robotics education expo being put on by the San Diego Science Alliance this Saturday, October 10th, 2009 at Cayumaca College. Everyone from teachers, students, parents, and members of the public will be there. If you are an officer in a student org with a cool robotics demonstration you'd like to show off, please email Justin Huang. It's also a great opportunity to witness various robotics education projects going on in San Diego, including BotBall, FIRST, and our very own IEEE! The event will run from 9am - 1pm, and admission is free.

The goal of the Outreach committee is to use the resources of TESC to promote science and engineering in the larger San Diego community. We are particularly focused on encouraging younger students to consider a career in engineering.
The committee chairs are Maria Cardona and Justin Huang.
Sign up for the TESC Outreach mailing list to get our committee's agendas and minutes. You'll also hear about other outreach events, programs, and opportunities going on around TESC and UCSD. Also, join our Facebook group!
Outreach members can read, edit, and participate in outreach through our wiki, and get updates if they can't make a meeting.
